Whatever Gets You Through The Night

Something special is coming to The Arches near the end of June. Whatever Gets You Through The Night is described as “an ambitious multi-disciplinary music and theatre performance” and having read more about it Podcart is completely intrigued.
The performance involves more than 20 Scottish artists. Furthermore, there is writing from novelists, poets and playwrights. The musicians involved have written an album’s worth of original material and some of these musicians will also perform at the show. Additionally, actors interacting with the words and music, visuals by Kim Beveridge, gorgeous aerial work, and a film directed by Daniel Warren.
The artists involved are: Errors, Alan Bissett, Rachel Sermanni, Withered Hand, Annie Griffin, Meursault, David Greig, RM Hubbert, Wounded Knee, Alan Spence, Ricky Ross, Conquering Animal Sound, Emma Pollock, Kirstin Innes, Isabel Wright, Swimmer One, Bigg Taj, Stef Smith, Eugene Kelly, Douglas Maxwell, Talkingmakesnosense and David Ireland. I think everyone will agree this is an audacious line-up to say the least.
Whatever Gets You Through The Night previews Tuesday 26th June 2012 and run from Wednesday 27th – Friday 29th June 2012.
The team have explained the event further:
“Created by Cora Bissett, director of the 2012 Olivier Award winning Roadkill, with Swimmer One and David Greig, the show will be quite unlike anything else – a visual and aural banquet blending circus, cabaret, and a host of stories – all of which take place across Scotland between the hours of midnight and 4am. A heartfelt goodbye on the shore of Loch Lomond, a Skype affair between two people who have never met, a man searching for a lover in ‘the palace of light’, a character lost in a virtual reality game world, and an homage to the joys of chips and cheese. Meet lost souls, party animals and dreamers in a snapshot of an entire nation at its most vulnerable and revealing.”
There is no doubt that the work and imagination that has gone into this is mind blowing. Therefore, it is only just that we take the time to go and experience this unique event.
