Sure Shot: Euan Robertson
Wednesday, February 29th, 2012
‘Sure Shot’ invites a special guest photographer each week to chose a favourite image from a fellow photographer that they feel is fantastic and explain why.
They will be asked to choose one of their own images and explain why they like it so much. A bit of self praise never heard anyone!
This week’s special guest is Euan Robertson. Euan has become a notable and praised photographer in the Scottish music community having shot for The Skinny, Radar Scotsman and others. We are a big fan of his work and next week our podcast is with the man himself. In the meantime here is an example of what a talent he is.
Sol’s shot
This shot is of A Winged Victory For The Sullen, taken at Oran Mor in Glasgow by Sol Nicol. I first saw Sol’s work in The Skinny last year and have been a fan since. I think one of the highest compliments you can pay a fellow photographer is to say “I wish I’d taken that!” and that’s exactly how I feel about this shot. Perfect capture and processing to reflect the mood of the band. I think it’s a really striking image.
My Shot
This if Flavor Flav of Public Enemy at the O2 ABC last year. It’s definitely the most fun show that I’ve had the chance to photograph yet, so I guess this shot has positive memories & emotions attached. It was a pretty intense time in the pit for this show with so much going on and I was pretty delighted to get this as Flavor got right in my face. It was one of those moments when you know you’ve managed to get a really good shot as soon as you’ve taken it. It’s also been pretty well received by people and was runner-up in the Pop Cop’s annual photography competition, which was really nice.
