Song of the Day: Vukovi – ‘Thick Skinned’

This is a week of admissions for me and this is one of my biggest.

I have never been a fan of Vukovi and I have been often questioned as to why. I think I was a total bastard if the truth be told and immediately stereotyped them as a Paramore wannabe outfit.

I am going to use some of this blog as a bit of an apology.

Today I was sent over their live session video for ‘Thick Skinned’ and by all accounts it shut me up. This is my Song of the Day, no ifs and or buts.

Firstly, the band behind frontwoman Janine Shilstone are glorious. They are cranked up to the hilt from start to finish and let loose with a blinding, corrosive assault. I absolutely adore the atonal elements of this track and for a female lead – Janine is a sexy vixen. Her vocals are there to match the ferocity of her band and she is as aggressive as the ‘rifferama’ that surrounds her.

I love the filming of this session video; the keyhole shots create enough tension to match the music.

This is perfect for Valentine’s Day and is just how it should be done, a declaration of love with enough fight to blow your heart into the corners of your body.
