Song of the Day: Flutes – ‘What is Love’

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

I remember my brother highlighting the film A Night at the Roxbury with the identifiable dance that accompanied the Haddaway hit ‘What is Love’. It holds fond memories as does the song.

When the title flashed up in my email inbox, I just presumed that Flutes has penned another song by the same name. Well I was wrong and it appears they have covered the song.

I am a hard one to please when it comes to covers. As the old saying goes, there is no point doing something unless you are going to do it well. Apologies, I also have to quote a cunting X Factor twat by saying that you really have to make it your own.

Mass swearing aside, Flutes have nailed it. Their cover of ‘What is Love’ oddly puts me in mind of Godspeed’s phenomenal song ‘Moya’. I am a person that fully embraces everything in the minor key when it comes to music.

Flutes have given us our Song of the Day and I have subsequently sent it onto all my family with sheer jubilation. This is a rousing and heart-bursting cover. With a crescendo at precisely the right point to make feel you breathless, Flutes have created a knockout.
