KTNYR Preview: Discopolis, Kill The Waves, The Mighty Cream, Capstin Pole
Tuesday, January 10th, 2012
Capstin Pole – Effervescent. They would taste like sherbet. They are the musical equivalent of those spaceship sweets with the sherbet in them.
blood blood – Mellifluous. I imagine blood blood’s music would taste like coconut milk or cream. Smooth, light and lush.
The Mighty Cream – Sonorous. I listened to The Mighty Cream the other week for the first time, and I was eating After Eights. Minty.
Discopolis – Rhapsodic. I am going to say that they taste like bacon. Bacon is amazing. There is a meaty feel to their sounds, and every so often everyone gets a overhwhelming craving. Even vegetarians. I have never met a vegetarian who used to eat meat who hasn’t claimed to miss the taste of bacon.
What song (apart from one of your own) would soundtrack film footage of the best bits of your band so far?
This answer would undoubtedly be different spending on who in our band is answering, but it is me today, so fuck them. I would choose “Afternoon” by Youth Lagoon. It is such a joyful song, so full of whimsy and felicity, that I could imagine us smiling in the sunshine in footage filmed with a super 8 camera. Definitely is the sonic representation of the last few months in Kill The Waves.
What’s your best memory of King Tuts either as a punter or performer?
Personally, my favourite memory is when we played our first – and until now, only – gig in King Tut’s supporting Wolf Gang. King Tut’s has always been the venue that we’d dreamed of playing in since the very start when we were named after a cheese, so to get the opportunity to play there was amazing, and being asked back is even better.
If you could play any venue on this planet which would it be?
I saw Bon Iver play in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and it is such beautiful building with some amazing acoustics, and when it is full it looks unbelievable. It would be grand to get to the stage where we are playing incredible venues like that. Also, I would love to be in a hardcore punk band and go back in time and play CBGB.
And that is why we love this band. See you tonight at Tuts, hot and sweaty, hips at the ready.
