Wickerman Festival Previews: The Solus Tent – Woodenbox With A Fistful Of Fivers
7.19.2010 | News
Woodenbox started off as a vehicle for singer-songwriter Ali Downer and as he added members along the way the band created an increasingly raucous sound, akin to the Spaghetti Western inspired backing players name ‘A Fistful Of Fivers’.
Their sound more than flirts with traditional Americana and roots bands such as The Band, but often leads to rapturous bursts of trumpets and saxophone, juxtaposing the sad, folky restrains with the euphoric, energetic brass.
The sextet released their excellent debut album, ‘The Home and The Wildhunt’, but to truly comprehend them you have to witness them as a live force. Their performance will undoubtedly see the band take you by the scruff of the neck and lead to a foot-stomping rollicking affair. The mixture of misery and euphoria experienced live makes them a must see at this years festival.
