Misterlee – ‘Littleman (We’re Alive Here)/This Disquiet Dog’
2.05.2010 | Album Reviews
When ‘this disquiet dog‘ by Misterlee first landed with press release in my inbox I was sceptical as the musical descriptions I had heard did not tick all of my metaphorical boxes. As the saying goes never judge a book by its cover.
‘Littleman (We’re Alive Here)‘ is the debut single from ‘this disquiet dog‘ by Misterlee and is almost primal in sound. With the core instruments imitating one another there is a staunch force that drives this song. I adore songs that layer up, each instrument at a time and explode into a mass showering of confetti-like sound. Lee Allatson aka Misterlee is quite the visionary and his music travels down an avenue that I have not heard in some time if not at all.
His debut album ‘this disquiet dog‘ will push you into a different realm of listening. It is a very diverse album and ‘Littleman’ is in no way an indicator of what you can expect from it. One thing that you can take from ‘Littleman’ and relate to the album is the continuous vein of strength that pulses throughout.
Albums like ‘this disquiet dog‘ have to be given full attention. It is not the type of album you can put on as background music and leave to tantalise your senses on a whim. It is an album that you have to take in every sound effect, every chord and utterance. Artists like Misterlee push boundaries, not only in music, but they push the boundaries of the way I listen to music. They make me forget my stereotypes and force me to experiment more without fear or assumption.
‘Littleman (We’re Alive Here)‘ is available now as a single and ‘this disquiet dog‘ is available March 1st.
