MUSIC TO THEIR EARS …AT SCOTCAMPUS FRESHERS’ FESTIVAL 2009!

10.01.2009 | News

The next two days sees the wonderful Scotcampus Freshers’ Festival return for another term! With a whole host of exhibitors, musicians and freebies it promises to be a fun packed two days! PodcART is also pleased to see a whole host of bands playing that we have featured on our podcasts over the months!

Day one sees EXILE PARADE, POOCH, THE MEAT MEN, NEVADA BASE, SUSPIRE, LITTLE ESKIMOS, ANNIE STEVENSON, MY COUSIN I BID YOU FAREWELL and SINISTER FLYNN all confirmed whilst on day two the live soundtrack comes courtesy of LOST IN AUDIO, THE BLACK HAND GANG, TANGO IN THE ATTIC, NIXA, ARDENT JOHN, EPIC 26, ISA & THE FILTHY TONGUES, BRONTO SKYLIFT and MUST BE SOMETHING.

Promising an unrivalled showcase of the best ‘preview’ to student life yet, this latest announcement is sure to have a steady stream of music-loving students descend on the Relentless Energy Drink Music Tent where the live music action takes place between 10am and 6pm daily. A very special headline act due to be announced soon is set to make the live music tent the must-visit hub of the festival and a very tasty proposition indeed for all visitors.

Speaking about his involvement in the festival JIM GELLATLY said “I’m delighted to be hosting the Relentless Energy Drink Music Tent. It really is an amazing introduction to the new music coming out of Scotland at the moment, and from a purely selfish point of view a great opportunity for me to catch up with bands I’ve been playing on my radio show and podcast over the past year or so.

Aside from the rising stars of the Scottish scene, I’ve heard some great things about Londoners Nixa, who’ve been likened to Biffy Clyro… and I’ll finally get the chance to see Warrington’s Exile Parade, a band I’ve been excited about for a while.”

Now in its third hugely successful year, and returning for the second consecutive year to the epicentre of George Square in Glasgow, organisers of Scotland’s premier student attraction are gearing up for the biggest attendance figures to date.

Over 12,000 information-hungry students are expected to descend on the free admission festival, which takes place across the days of Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October, in their quest to discover the secrets to a joyful student life, along with learning a wealth of helpful information and advice .

Over EIGHTY big names have signed up to exhibit, entice and educate in the festival’s Main Arena including a raft of cool lifestyle brands such as Urban Outfitters, Dominos, YO! Sushi, The Model Team, Blackberry and Matalan. With a dizzying programme of activity that is sure to put plenty of feel good fun into the more serious issue of further education, Scotcampus Freshers’ Festival 2009 will present everything from live music showcases, DJ sets from the hottest names, product samplings, model talent searches, fashion flashes, beauty treats, goody bags and must-attend after parties, plus lots more.

Organisers have also secured a major coup in bringing the acclaimed RockNess music festival on board to host its own Arena. More exciting details on that coming soon.

Last year’s festival was a storming success with amazing feedback from everyone involved and the message to all students returning for 2009 is clear – don’t miss out!

GRAEME BARRATT, festival director and co-founder of Scotcampus (Scotland’s national student newspaper) says “We have been blown away by the response of the last two years and 2009 will be without fail the best yet. The exciting new live music acts announced today to play the Relentless Energy Drink Music Tent are sure to appeal to the masses of students expected through the doors. We would urge everyone interested in joining us in October to register online at www.scotcampus.com.”
