Pin Up Nights: The Circus Is Coming To Town!

9.22.2009 | News

Even before I moved to Glasgow I was attending the fabulous Pin Up nights and relished them! Obviously alcohol flowed till I was like Ricky Gervais on sulph and I was dancing like Abba on steroids but never did I fail to have an amazing night. This week however we reach a whole new level of complete and utter awesome.

There are some bloody marvellous bands playing:

1. Sonny Marvellowww.myspace.com/sonnymarvello
I have been hyping this band for years. Winners of New York’s Meany Fest in December 2007 (where they beat 400 other bands!) surely it’s only a matter of time til their mix of Motown, Bowie and Queen hits the spot here. Songs and showmanship in spades!

2. Poochwww.myspace.com/poochtheband
Pooch first played Pin Ups in May 2007 and Guest DJ Brett Anderson of Suede was so impressed his management brought them down to London to perform. Since then they have been star turns at the Pin Ups Ladies Night and also our Hogmanay Ball. Kind of like Crystal Castles sleeping with the Slits! Pooch are 2 girls, 2 boys, lots of glitter and lots of noise!

3. Mitchell Museumwww.myspace.com/mitchellmuseum
Widely acknowledged as one of Scotland’s best new bands since their emergence last autumn, Mitchell Museum’s output to date has been a riot of melody and percussion. Not as mental as you’d think – in a good way!

4. “Quick, Run”
This band are so new they haven’t even recorded a song yet! But Perth man Rafe Dewar is behind them so I’m sure they will have tunes. Rafe was in The Friday Night Motel with me – www.myspace.com/fridaynightmotel – and I think we were alright..

5. Scunnerwww.myspace.com/scunnerscotland
Scunner’s charismatic frontman Paul Puppet is going to be our Circus Ringleader and his band shall play some of their fantastic wonky fairground pop in the Kitchen round midnight.

What a night! Please show your support for these wonderful folks!
