The Glasgow PodcART

The night I saw Any Color Black perform with The Viridian Quartet it confirmed that Glasgow and indeed Scotland was now a very exciting place to reside. This predominantly Electro/Rock outfit did a show that I have not experienced since the likes of Bjork. They performed live with a string quartet and the result was stunning.

With a backdrop of blazing luminosity the CCA played host to these masterly musicians. The tracks were so striking that shivers were felt up and down my back for the entire duration. Each song has a lusty beat merged with loops of genius melody. It does not stop there, this is the absolute beauty of this act. Two guitarists that are radical and visually gorgeous. Louise’s female vocal is comprised of two things. Her voice has a voluptuous body yet there is a sadness to it that makes her sound naïve. It is in one word resplendent.

The Viridian Quartet are clearly an established group of musicians. You could quite easily go to any classical showcase and they would be able to hold their heads and bows high. The tone they produced was as pure as crystal clear water and the timing of each individual perfection.

When the two acts combined this really was something memorable but also something that I will hold as personal. Any Color Black’s sounds I compare to a masterful robot and The Viridian Quartet was the blood that flows through it, it was like night and day combined.

I am now going to suggest a campaign that this is performed again. My PodcART colleagues were of course devastated that they missed it after my reports and this is why it has to happen again. People simply have to experience this wealth of talent.

Any Color Black are up there with the best. They may be Electronic but by the 8 notes on an octave scale they are as good as any musician out there. They opened up the full spectrum of the rainbow for me that wonderful night.
