Song of the Day: Profisee – ‘Movin (Hidden Orchestra Remix)’
Friday, May 25th, 2012
‘Perfect’ is not generally a word that I would use to describe a track, I am not sure if I have used it for a new artist other than Sigur Ros or Bjork.
Our Song of the Day is in my eyes perfect. ‘Movin’ by Profisee has been remixed by Hidden Orchestra and is potentially my favourite track of 2012 so far.
I have a Moroccan father and growing up I was constantly subjected to various artists from that side of the world, the specific style of violin composition was something that stood out and I never really fully appreciated how inspirational it was till the last 10 years or so. My brother introduced me to hip hop around 2002. You would constantly hear the beats of Dilated Peoples, The Roots, 2pac and many more throbbing against his bedroom door with overwhelming fervour.
Proisee’s alliance with Hidden Orchestra is the marrying of my last 30 years listening and therefore it strikes a lightening chord in me. Profisee is one of the most exciting hip hop artists to emerge in Scotland for me since Podcart began. He thinks outside the box and his collaborations and ethos enable him to create music that is not only relevant to his own musical community, but one that transcends genres. Hidden Orchestra have provided the most exquisite reworking of this track and added continued emotional depth with an undercurrent of dangerous fragility showing.
These are only words at the end of the day, the real power is in the track and by God it is a productive masterpiece.
