20 Years Of Sleaze Part 1

Monday, October 31st, 2011

The first time I visited Nice ‘n’ Sleazy I nearly crapped my underwear. Having been brought up in Toward (small village outside of Dunoon) I had only been exposed to my walkman filled with Nirvana, Bjork and Radiohead. Nothing was going to prepare me for this culture shock.

Many years ago my mates and I decided to head up to the bright lights of Glasgow toon and see what all the fuss was about. Stories of beautifully unique people and more importantly audacious gigs were the temptation. We were paranoid as fuck before entering, mainly because we were small village types that were dressing to look the part, but still just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

We have not looked back and Sleazy’s has become an iconic spot in Glasgow. Bands from around the world know exactly what it is and the reputation it holds. I remember bumping into We Are Scientists and them asking directions following a gig. Then followed lots of Russians (the liquid kind) and dancing at the back of the room. Where else are you going to get fucked up with a band that you would normally see on a massive stage?

Time has literally flown past and we are on the even of their 20th birthday celebrations. The team have organised a month long gig fest and boy it is not going to disappoint. We are going to bringing you the previews on all the gigs and doing so 3 at a time! It means you can fully digest what is going on and get ready for the next stage!

Happy Birthday 20th Nice ‘n’ Sleazy’s! You beautiful dirty, filthy, sexy bastards.

Theme Park + Guests

Theme Park are London based electronic, indie, pop goodness! The Haughton twins formed the band with a group of friends and they have a beautifully, light and refreshing sound. A definite palate cleanser on the Sleazy’s extravaganza.

St Deluxe + PAWS + Edinburgh School For The Deaf (ESFTD)

Fuck a duck. This is an incredible line-up and one of our highlights of the month. Having only just become familiar with ESFTD, they blew us away on a podcast play and we went onto listening to their music solely for a week. Dark, moody, melodic and grand. All the ingredients for something brilliant. PAWS need no introduction; they are ferocious, obnoxious, punk. They give it all no stage and if Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and Nirvana were to have an orgy and subsequently a love child then PAWS would be the offspring. St Deluxe are addictive grunge, having been in the studio for the last wee while producing new stuff it will not be long before they are hitting our headlines again. A worthy headline to a stellar line-up.
